Frequently asked questions

Is Philips Zoom Whitening safe for my teeth?

In short, yes. As with any treatment, Zoom Whitening needs to be used according to instructions in order to be safe and effective. Be sure to follow the teeth whitening directions contained carefully. Some whitening products can irritate your gums or cause undue sensitivity if used improperly or too often. Clinical studies have shown that whitening your teeth with carbamide or hydrogen peroxide under the supervision of a dental professional is safe for teeth and gums. Philips Whitening gel formula includes fluoride, amorphous calcium phosphate (ACP) and potassium nitrate. Fluoride and ACP have been shown to help strengthen and protect enamel while potassium nitrate helps to reduce tooth sensitivity. Together the combination helps maintain the health of the teeth.

How long does Philips Zoom Whitening treatment last?

Most whitening treatments are designed to last for quite some time (in some cases a year or longer!), but regression in results is not uncommon over time. This can happen due to a variety of day-to-day behaviors that can re-stain your teeth. Avoiding foods and liquids that contribute to staining such as coffee, tea, mustard, ketchup, curries, & tobacco will help the effects of whitening last longer.

Can I use Philips Zoom Whitening with my aligners?

No. The custom trays provided with Philips Zoom Whitening are engineered to safely apply the gel to your teeth. The scalloped edges minimize the contact the whitening gel has with your gums. Aligner trays are manufactured specifically for moving your teeth into a new position and will cover your gums. If you are in clear aligner treatment, you should not use Philips Zoom Whitening gel with aligner trays due to the combination of applied pressure and gum line coverage. Candid's Whitening Foam is a more gentle solution that may be used with your aligner trays.

What is the difference between Philips Zoom Whitening and Candid’s Whitening Foam?

Philips Zoom Whitening is a professional clinical grade whitening system that utilizes a 6% hydrogen peroxide solution with fluoride, ACP, and potassium nitrate. The whitening solution Candid offers during treatment is a milder whitening foam of 3.8% hydrogen peroxide.

I’m happy with my whitening results, but have extra Zoom Whitening gel.

Excellent! Your Zoom Whitening treatment may be considered complete once you're satisfied with your results.

Does whitening affect bonding/fillings/veneers?

Philips Zoom Whitening treatment will not change the coloration of any bonding, fillings, or veneers.
