Let’s say you needed heart surgery. Who would you go to: your primary care doctor or a heart surgeon?
That’s the kind of choice you’re making when you decide between Candid and other at-home options. When you buy clear aligners online, you aren’t just getting pieces of plastic. There’s a prescribing doctor on the other end who designs your treatment. At Candid, those doctors are orthodontists: specialists in the diagnosis, prevention and correction of irregular alignments of the teeth and jaws.
Orthodontists literally go to school to learn how to straighten teeth. It’s what they do.
But other at-home teeth straightening companies don’t only work with orthodontists, and they may not work with them at all. Instead, they use general dentists or other dental professionals. Which means your care could be in the hands of someone who knows a lot about teeth, but isn’t trained to see the bigger picture. The way the bones and muscles of your face, neck and jaw come together. The angle of your bite. The long-term impact that changes in tooth position will have on the structures around them.
Primary oral care, the domain of general dentists, is incredibly important. But when it comes to straightening your teeth, definitely stick with the experts.
Committing to treatment can be intimidating. We know that. Straightening your teeth is a big decision, so it makes sense that you don’t want to rush into it.
But we’re 100% committed not just to delivering great outcomes, but to making sure you feel cared for throughout the process. That’s why we offer something that other companies don’t: remote monitoring by an orthodontist. The same specialist who designs and prescribes your treatment plan will track your progress with scans you take from your phone. You won’t have to wonder how everything is going, because your orthodontist will be able to keep tabs on your treatment from anywhere you are.
It’s faster than having to make appointments every two weeks — and the combination of convenience and peace of mind is unmatched.
But that’s not the only innovation we’re bringing to orthodontics. Our patent-pending treatment protocol was designed for teledentistry. It completely eliminates the need for interproximal reduction, or IPR: the practice of filing down your teeth to create room for movement between steps. It also dramatically reduces the need for post-treatment refinements.
Everything else we do is designed to fit your life, too. Our aligners are durable, stain-resistant, and BPA- and phthalate-free. Our whitening foam is gentle enough to use throughout the day and every night. Our care team will always work around your schedule if you have questions.
A lot has to happen between before and after. We’re here to make sure you feel confident every step of the way.
Here’s the thing about straightening your teeth: It’s a medical procedure, not “just” a cosmetic one. Improperly prescribed treatment could have real consequences, from unstable results to an impaired bite or even tooth loss.
So we treat you the way you’d expect a doctor to treat a patient: carefully, conservatively, and with close attention to detail.
It all starts with our diagnostic process. Some at-home aligner companies ask for as few as 3 photos of your face and teeth, but we require 8, the American Board of Orthodontics standard of care, to go along with high-quality PVS impressions or intraoral digital scans. Plus, we ask for more details about your dental and medical history in our consent form than many of our competitors do.
Does that mean it’s harder to get approved for treatment by Candid than by other companies? It can. There’s a lot our orthodontists look for when they assess your case, from the underlying causes of your dental appearance to any signs of gum disease. They’ll only ever prescribe treatment if they’re confident they can safely and effectively deliver a great outcome.
That same focus on safety extends to our treatment protocol. For example, unlike other companies, we would never align just the “social six” or your top or bottom teeth alone, because that could ruin your bite. And while others advertise speed, we’re careful to only move your teeth at velocities compatible with your bone biology. Going faster than that could mean your body never has a chance to heal.
We’re all about expanding access to care, but that doesn’t mean we cut corners.
